Presidents Day 2021: Presidential Day in the United States, officially Washington’s Birthday is a federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February in honor of the first President of the United States of America, George Washington (born February 22nd). The holiday is popularly recognized as Abraham Lincoln (born on February 12), and occasionally honoring all US presidents.
In the memory of Washington, the federal holiday was established in 1879 for government offices in Washington and later (1885) it expanded all over the country. From 1968 the Uniform Monday Holiday Act changed the date on 3rd Monday (effective until 1971) in February. By 1971 and on a given (Gregorian Calendar) year, the date of the President’s Day is between 15 and 21 February. That’s why it never happens on February 22, that is, actual Washington’s Birthday. Similarly, it also remembers Lincoln’s birthday on February 12.
